So Glen leaves town and all snow breaks loose. Seriously! I was happy he was going off to have a fun experience, but I was also nervous about all the snow that was forecast to fall while he was gone.
I was so grateful Monday morning (April 3rd) when I looked out the window to see Grant Stewart had cleared off half of our driveway of snow. Bless that man!!
For the 20+ years Stewarts have lived here, this is the first year Grant decided he was fed up with shoveling and went out and bought himself a snow blower. Talk about a banner snow year for him to do so!!
I went out a little later and shoveled the rest of the snow off our driveway. I do not like to use the snowblower because it is so big and noisy and heavy--especially on the steep side of the driveway.
Imagine my dismay when I read this weather report.
When I was cleaning the upstairs hall bathroom, I noticed something strange outside the window. I had never seen that before and it took a minute for me to figure out what it was.
It wasn't long before our neighbor, Kathy Jacketta, sent me this picture she took from her vantage point which showed me exactly what I had been seeing through the bathroom window. That little, tiny window was barely visible under the massive snow ledge hanging down off our roof.
Tuesday afternoon I went out and shoveled a path from the garage out to the street so Glen could make his way from the Uber car I was going to insist he take home from the airport so I wouldn't have to go out in the stormy weather to get him. Then I started to continue clearing off one-third of the driveway. The snow was lightening up and the roads were cleared, so I thought I could make it to the airport.
Then a blessing occurred. Dallas said he would go pick Glen up and deliver him home. Hurray for Dallas!!
Since Glen had been spending days in the 80-degree Texas weather...
I thought he should get in some snow-removal action once he got back to our Utah reality.
Gen got busy clearing off the other two-thirds of the driveway before Abe's family arrived later that day.
Klarissa was flying in from North Carolina with Wynne, Magnus and Monty.
Once they arrived, Magnus was anxious to get into his snow clothes and go outside and play in the snow.
The little boys were excited about the popcorn treat their grandpa made for them.
Abe and Newland flew to Utah from Texas arriving very late that night. I had to laugh at Newland feeling like he had to go out dancing in the snow barefoot.
The next morning we woke up to snow that was so deep it went up to the picnic table's bench. There was a lot of snow that fell in a relatively short amount of time.Glen and I were glad the snow wasn't falling when we went for our usual Wednesday morning visit to the prison. That is the day Glen does interviews with the men while I attend institute class during those two hours.
We have admired the beautiful mountain we see as we drive west on I-80 to the prison. It is a spectacular view in the morning when the sun shines on it and turns it a golden color and is even a more spectacularly beautiful view when the mountain is covered in snow.
After the prison, Nani met us at Dad and Mom's home where Mom had fixed us a chicken salad sandwich lunch before the financial talking began.
Meanwhile, as we were busy doing our things that day--Abe's, Rebecca's and Sarah's families were busy playing in the snow. They went sledding at the golf course.
Rebecca had so kindly left the snow fun to get food preparation started for me as I had volunteered to take dinner that evening to the Carter family who were grieving the loss of their husband and father.
I am Annette's ministering sister and it was so hard to watch her go through the health problems and surgeries that eventually led to Dave's death. So sad!! He was my age.
That always hits home and helps make you appreciate life and not take for granted the associations you have with loved one.
Thursday was French toast breakfast in preparation for a skiing day. Ben went with Abe, Newland and Wynne to Brighton that day to ski.
Thursday is the day Glen and I are ordinance workers at the temple. We usually get home around 6:30 and are pretty hungry.
This was a great after-temple dinner for us because one of the girls had fixed dinner for everyone and had saved some for us. And Abe gave me a shoulder massage while I ate.
Friday morning Klarissa joined the group for another ski day.
This is the road they drove on to get to the ski resort.
What a beautiful picture of Abe's family on the slopes. The snow doesn't look that deep until they pointed out that the directional signs that are visible at the base of the tree are usually way above them and not at ground level. Crazy!!!!!
Poor little Magnus was sick with a fever that day and had gone upstairs and put himself to bed for a nice long nap. Thankfully, no one else got his sickness and he was better the next day.
Saturday morning Caroline (first one on the left on the back row) assisted in the North Salt Lake Easter egg hunt.
That day it was Haley's turn to fix the meal. She chose pizza, which is always a hit for everyone.
Brooke was a very happy girl that day. She worked at Lagoon last summer and absolutely LOVED it!! She can't talk highly enough about her love of her job.
Imagine how disappointed she has been this year with all the snow causing delays in Lagoon opening.
Brooke was thrilled to learn Lagoon wanted her to be a supervisor this year. She has been so anxious to meet the people she will be supervising and hoping some of her favorite people will be working with her once again.
This was a happy day for her to put on her Lagoon uniform and be back at work. Brooke has been reading books about leadership as that is something that really interests her. She has a great desire to be a good leader. That is commendable!
While all that was going on, Glen and I went with Dad, Mom and Nani to Hale to see the play "See How They Run."
We were able to participate in the Easter egg hunting festivities when we got home. Since it had been so snowy, wet and muddy, we thought an indoor hunt would be the best. Rebecca suggested their church building and it worked out perfectly.
Dallas, Rebecca and Brooke had gone to the church early to hide the eggs. After the grandchildren posed for a photo and received their instructions, they each grabbed a bag and started hunting for eggs.
The chapel and the bathrooms were off limits. The little boys hunted in the gym and the rest of the grandchildren hunted in the hallways and in all the classrooms. It was such a smashing success!
They all had a bag full of eggs when it was time to go home.
Wynne celebrated her eighth birthday while she was here. Klarissa made the cutest cupcake ski cake for her and even had ski-themed paper plates, cups and napkins to go along with it. So cute!!
When everyone returned from the egg hunt, it was time for Wynne to blow out her candles.
I found Jonah and Kade sitting in the dark with their plates full of glow sticks.
Happy Birthday to Wynne!! Eight is great!!
