LAKE TAHOE (part 3): Drive Around Lake Tahoe; Railroad Museum; Carson City Walking Tour

Wednesday was the day we decided to make the drive around all of Lake Tahoe. We wanted to see it from all angles.

It was interesting to learn that two-thirds of the lake is in California and one-third is in Nevada. 

This is a traffic sign you don't see very often. Just reporting there were no bear sightings either on the road or in the trees.

Another interesting fact about Lake Tahoe is that "it is one of the most pure bodies of water in the world with 99.994% of the water pure. Commercially distilled water is 99.998% pure."

We stopped in South Lake Tahoe when Glen spotted this mini golf course.

Turns out it was a pretty fun course to golf on.

This was my favorite picture taken on the course. Glen wants it made known he was not in there because of HIS shot going awry...

The score (and this smile) is evident which one of us is the pro mini golfer.

Once back over the mountain at our resort in Genoa, we again ate at the 1862 Walley's Restaurant and Saloon. 

After dinner we took a walk along the trail that took us to the Welcome to Genoa sign. We listened to the geese squawking or honking or whatever it is they do. The marsh landscape was the perfect spot for them to congregate because it sure sounded like there were a lot of them.

Thursday was our day to visit Carson City. We went to the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

Glen is pointing to his great-great-grandfather Abraham Hunsaker who was present at the iconic meeting of the eastern and western rail lines in Promontory Point, Utah on May 10, 1869. 

We next went to the Nevada State Museum which is housed in what was the Carson City Mint Building.

The various displays showcase Nevada's natural and cultural history.

It was such a pleasant afternoon to go walking on the Kit Carson Trail which is "a 2 1/2 mile path through Carson City's historic district. It features stops at landmarks including 1800s-era Victorian-style homes, museums and churches. Nearly 50 landmarks telling the story of the capital city's history are featured along the Kit Carson Trail."

This is a small sampling of what we saw along our walk, stopping at each one to read a brief history.

What a fun way to get in a little exercise! 

Then we were hungry and ready for our dinner at Red's Old 395 Grill. The outside was impressive, and the inside was even more unique.

There was so much stuff to look at all throughout that restaurant.

There was a whole lot going on overhead to look at as well. 

It was a crazy, sensory-overload kind of place, but fun to have lots to look at while waiting for our food.

We made our drive back to Genoa. It was time to pack up for our departure for home the next morning. 

What a grand and glorious adventure 2-week vacation this had been for us. Such fun to explore what different places have to offer. So much to learn and appreciate about different parts of the country. Loved it!!
