Jacob's family made a detour to Provo on their way home from Aspen Grove. Jacob and Natalie practiced riding the bus so Natalie would know how to do that and get around via bus routes when she goes to college in August.
Wynne is such an avid reader I was surprised to see Jacob doing the reading when they were sitting side-by-side on the couch. What a nice uncle!
Now that our week of planned fun had come and gone, we were sitting around wondering what we were going to do for the next week plus of our extended vacation.
While still at Aspen Grove, we had decided our first-night-back-at-home evening meal and entertainment would be pizza and a movie.
Saturday was green t-shirt day once again. We were going to the rodeo and wanted to all be dressed in the same color. It's so much easier to keep track of everyone that way.
Since Glen's sister Barbara lives in Hyrum, he asked her if she could go to the local grocery store and purchase our bunch of tickets.
On our way to the rodeo, we stopped for dinner at Golden Corral. Sarah's family had gone to visit their friends and so they just met us at the rodeo. Ben's family had gotten sick with respiratory issues the last part of Aspen Grove and did not feel like they would enjoy going to the rodeo.
We did not have the best seats because we got there right before it started, but we made the best of it.
The "cash cow" event was something I had never seen before at a rodeo. Money had been stuck to a cow and as it was released into the arena, a herd of women chased it trying to grab the money.
The grandchildren had gotten bags of cotton candy from Golden Corral to take to the rodeo.
At one point a truck drove around the arena with the rodeo royalty throwing out frisbees and t-shirts into the crowd.
One thing about sitting on the bleachers behind the chutes was we got to see all the animals in the holding pens.
After the rodeo, the boys were anxious to get autographs as had been announced over the loudspeaker.
As they made their way through the crowd of fans, they looked very disappointed as they got to the table, saw the autographers, and turned to us and asked, "Where are the cowBOYS??!!??"
Having cowGIRLS autograph their programs was NOT what they had been anticipating.
Sunday Glen got busy peeling potatoes--lots of potatoes--for all the hungry people who would be eating Sunday dinner with us.
Family game time while waiting for dinner to cook and while waiting for our visitors to arrive.
We invited Dad, Mom and Nani to join us for dinner so they could have a chance to visit with our out-of-town children.
Since we had some sick family members, I had Dad, Mom and Nani go first dishing up their food as I was trying to have them exposed to the least amount of germs possible.
All the protections I had been taking to prevent my parents from getting germs went right out the window when Dad sat down right next to Ben's sick family so he could show Abe the book he got for Father's Day with pictures and the story of his big elk hunt.
Probably my favorite part of the evening was when Jacob and Abe told the story of what happened at the shooting range at Aspen Grove. Jacob had a picture on his phone to illustrate the story.
There were several family members at the range at the same time. Jacob was on one end of the line and Abe was at the other end. Abe decided to be a wise guy and sabotage Jacob's target by every once in a while aiming at Jacob's target and shooting out each of the four corners.
Jacob thought he had done a good job at hitting the bull's eye circles--until he looked up close and saw bullet holes in the corners of his target.
We all had a good laugh at the telling of the story!!
Sarah brought out her escape room backpack to have a different group of people try to solve it.
She was pleased yet another group was successful at solving it and was excited to have her young women tackle the challenge at girls' camp the following week.
Before our company left, there were photos taken with the great grandparents.
On Monday, Abe and Ben took a group of children to K1 Speed Indoor Go Carts.
The boys enjoyed wearing their under-helmet head socks when they got home.
Rebecca got busy making ice cream Oreo pies as per Caroline's request for her birthday "cake."
Luke, Emma and Laurie enjoyed having some baby Monty holding time.
Caroline also requested shepherd's pie for her birthday dinner. She had instructed her grandpa to make LOTS of mashed potatoes for Sunday dinner so there would be plenty leftover for her favorite meal.
After we sang to Caroline and she blew out her candles, we all dug in to partake of the delicious birthday dessert.
After dinner game time grew a crowd.
The highlight of our Tuesday was going to the canyon nearby for a cook-out. The very first thing the children did was walk across the almost-non-existent river and start climbing the nearly-vertical side of the mountain.
Surprisingly, they made it up quite a ways before they figured out it was going to be difficult getting down. After sliding down the dirt embankment and getting scraped up a bit, they heeded the warning to never climb up it again.
Dallas always does a great job getting the fire started for the roasting of hot dogs and marshmallows.
Our baby Levi learned how to crawl when everyone was in town, which delighted us all to see his big accomplishment.
A little thunderstorm rolled through and caused us to make a hasty departure from the canyon.
Let the evening games begin!!
