We had zone conferences--this time three zones per day and only held them for two days instead of our usual three days.
The zone leaders and sister training leaders taught four rotating classes.
In one class, there was a little competition going to see who could find scriptures and applicable quotes or sections in Preach My Gospel that pertained to various scenarios.
The quickest companionship got to wear sombreros until they were dethroned (dehatted) when someone else was quicker the next scenario.
But, as always has happened during our seminars, we had big issues going on back in the mission that needed to be dealt with. This was no exception.
Glen had just worked hard the days leading up to the seminar going through the process of a missionary going home early. This particular day Glen was busy on the phone trying to figure out consolidation issues with the mission.
This was in view just beyond our grasp...
We had purposely chosen not to arrive too early. The afternoon activities included walking around Old Town San Diego and going on a tour of Mormon Battalion.
Since we have done those things many times, we opted out of those activities and only joined in with the group for dinner.
Glen wasn't all that thrilled when we learned dinner that evening would be at Tequila Factory--another place we go with all too much frequency and have gotten our fill of that Mexican food. For dinner there were a lot fewer options at the buffet, so it made us happy we take our missionaries at lunch time and get more choices.
After dinner we were free for the rest of the evening. We were staying at the Bahia Resort Hotel and we walked around the bay by our hotel.
We walked over to the Belmont Park area.
That took us southward on Mission Beach.
It was such a beautiful walk and we were eager to walk the other direction the next evening. We were glad we had taken our exercise clothes. I was very happy I was wearing good walking shoes and not dress shoes.
The next day we were in meetings all day with our Area Presidency: Elder Kevin W. Pearson, Elder Scott D. Whiting, Elder Jörg Klebingat and Elder Steven R. Bangerter as the General Authority in training.
During a break, I enjoyed looking out a window at the view. There's something about water that is very soothing (as long as I am not IN the water it's soothing!!!).
This Mission President's wife knows two of our missionaries, so I sent this photo of all of us together to those missionaries to let them know we were thinking of them.
These are a couple of other photos taken from above.
There was wildlife all around the resort.
There is a seal habitat on the hotel grounds that is home to two rescue seals. This was an interesting mode of transportation. It reminded me of the surrey ride we took with Sarah's family. Her boys would probably get a thrill out of this big-wheeled overgrown tricycle.
There are so many Mexican restaurants we have seen while living in California that end in -berto's.
We have laughed about it because we feel like they are on every corner. There's Alberto's, Eriberto's, Adalberto's, Jiliberto's, Ariberto's, Rigoberto's, etc.
And that night we spotted Mr. Ruriberto's. Yet another one!! Haha!!
We took a walk north on the beach the second night.
This is the 2019 graduating class of Mission Presidents and Wives. I know at least one couple sheds a tear every time we think about the end coming soon.
This former sister missionary keeps bouncing back. This was Sister Ciera Bradley's fourth or fifth visit back to the mission. She came this time to go to the temple for the sealing of two people she had taught.
Sister Laurie Masangkay Funk and her husband came for a visit.
Both of these sisters finished their mission on the same day, which was 6 weeks and 5 days after we arrived in the mission. Both of them were in town at the same time but didn't know it.
The whole Carlsbad Mission Presidency was at a baptism and it called for a photo!! What great men! Love all three of them!!
President David Badal, President Glen B. Thomas, President Israel Marin
