Logan's Stitches; Karate Kids and Mom; Javelin-Throwing Spencer; Lagoon With Ben's Family; Mother's Day

The fathers and sons outing for Jacob, Luke and Logan took a little detour from the campground to a medical facility. Logan got injured when he was playing on a playground when he jumped and hit his head.

The gash was deep enough to need four stitches.

Poor boy!! They hadn't planned to spend the night camping, so at least this didn't mess up any sleepover plans.
Sarah's boys are now in karate classes. They got a family deal so I am anxious to see Sarah in a karate robe and belt...

In the meantime, let's just enjoy these adorable photos of Lincoln and Jonah in their karate uniforms. It appears Lincoln is taking this quite seriously.

I loved it when Sarah finally posted a photo of her in her martial arts uniform and belt. She will surely become a black belt because she loves to excel (pun on her last name intended) in everything she does.
I had mentioned Rebecca doing the book fair at the elementary school. She has been in charge of it for several years now. The book fairs are held several times throughout the year and she organizes the volunteers and heads it all up. It was fun to see this post pop up on FaceBook.
Spencer has been giving track and field a try. He ran the 100-yard dash and had an impressively long javelin throw.

That called for an ice cream treat!
These are a few photos of Spencer at another track meet.

Look at that boy run!!! Leading the pack!!
I got a good chuckle over the story behind this photo from Abe. Magnus had gotten into the diaper cream and did a great job avoiding the eyes as he rubbed the cream all over Monty's face.
It was wonderful to get together for dinner with Glen's sisters once again after such a long time of Covid restrictions. It was soooo windy when we walked out of the restaurant. Ray and Maurine were hurrying to their car and didn't want to come back for a photo.
I can't blame them. Blowing hair is not my best look.
We went with Rich and Barbara to a cemetery so Glen could help Barbara find one of their relatives. Glen and Rich were walking around trying to find the headstone, and they soon found it, so that made Barbara happy.

Barbara is an avid quilter and made me a beautiful patriotic pillow. I love it!!
At home, I had more time to look at and admire my pillow gift. I love all the detail work. She even put in a zipper in the back panel so I can take the pillow out and wash the cover if necessary.
Two of our former sister missionaries were in town and wanted to come see us. We fed them a French toast breakfast on Saturday morning.
It was nice to get caught up on Morgan Olsen and Amber Kovach's lives.
After they left, I tuned into our online Stake Relief Society Women's Conference. LaVona Lewis is the Stake Relief Society President and she did a fabulous job organizing and carrying out the conference.
I enjoyed the pre-recorded video of Colleen Kossin teaching about making dinners for storage using freeze-dried foods, rice and beans. She is so cute and did such a great job. She's been our ward's emergency preparation specialist for years and she has learned a lot and does an excellent job sharing her knowledge with others.

My favorite was how LaVona introduced Colleen as not only her sister in the gospel, but also her sister in real life. Love these two sisters (and their husbands) who just happen to be some of our dear friends.

The talks were very spiritual and well done. What was extremely impressive is anyone who signed up for the conference had a lunch delivered to them the night before so we could eat our lunch following the conference. WOW!!!

My box lunch showed up on my porch the evening before as was promised and I enjoyed it for lunch while Glen ate buffalo wings. We were both thrilled with our individually different lunches that day.
As we were eating our lunch, Ben and Haley texted to see if we wanted to join their family at Lagoon. We had our season passes that we hadn't been able to use last year, so we decided to go ahead and join them there.

The place was PACKED!!!! The parking lot was so full it took a while to find a parking spot. The lines were soooo long! But at least it was a cool day and we were not roasting in the long wait lines.

After waiting for what felt like forever to get on the dinosaur egg drop ride, Kade had a very scary experience. I was surprised they even had him go on that ride. It scares me! He cried with every drop. Poor boy being scared to death at an amusement park where everything should be fun.
He was much, much happier on all the other rides.

Levi was my little buddy at Lagoon. I helped take care of him to free up Ben and Haley so they could enjoy being with Kade. The lines for the roller coasters and other rides for bigger people were so long that Ben and Haley didn't even want to go off by themselves to ride those rides.
I can no longer find my favorite sunscreen for sensitive skin--not even on the internet. I bought two other kinds to try out. I was so worried these different ones will give me an allergic reaction as others have in the past.

Sure enough, I woke up Sunday (Mother's Day) with burning, rashy skin. It was very uncomfortable all day long. Surprisingly my face wasn't too bad. It was probably because I had put the sunscreen over my make-up.
We had visitors on Mother's Day. Our former missionary Gwendolynn McCray brought her soon-to-be husband Caden with her so we could meet him.
It made me happy to see the photo Natalie posted of her with her mother on Mother's Day.
I also enjoyed another photo of Laurie with all her children.
I was surprised to see a flower bouquet and Mother's Day card on the porch a couple of days before Mother's Day. It was from one our missionaries, Nate Wilson. He so thoughtfully delivered a plant and a card to me last Mother's Day. What a sweet guy!!!
The message on the card from Abe made me laugh.
The inside of the card said, "From birth to present." Let's just say it is the perfect card from that child, and he knows it!! Oh how I love him!!!

I love all the other children as well. I appreciated the cards, phone calls, texts and other expressions of love and gratitude I received for Mother's Day.

I love my mother and am thankful to her for raising me during my difficult years from birth to present as well!

As disciples of the Lord, we need His redeeming power to accompany us, motivate us, and change us each and every day.
--Gerald Causse

When we choose to repent, we choose to change! We allow the Savior to transform us into the best version of ourselves. We choose to grow spiritually and receive joy--the joy of redemption in Him. When we choose to repent, we choose to become more like Jesus Christ!

Quotes of the Week

It would be impossible to measure the influence that women have, not only on families but also on the Lord's Church, as wives, mothers, and grandmothers; as sisters and aunts; as teachers and leaders; and especially as exemplars and devout defenders of the faith.
Russell M. Nelson

Seeing others as God does is a gift. I invite all of us to seek for this gift. As our eyes are opened to see, we will also be able to help others see themselves as God does.
--Douglas D. Holmes

Embrace your sacred memories. Believe them. Write them down. Share them with your family. Trust that they come to you from your Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son. Let them bring patience to your doubts and understanding to your difficulties.
Neil L. Andersen

Women bring with them into the world a certain virtue, a divine gift that makes them adept at instilling such qualities as faith, courage, empathy, and refinement in relationships and in cultures.

Natalie Seminary Graduation; Florida Family; Cinco de Mayo Dinner; New Roof

Natalie graduated from Seminary and will soon graduate from high school. It's hard to believe our first grandchild is reaching these milestones. Time flies!!

Abe's family has been enjoying living the Florida lifestyle. Might as well enjoy it all they can in the time they have left living there.

Rebecca was very surprised when Glen asked her to be prepared to get her picture taken so he could send it to his boss as per his request.

Glen had shared in his team meeting about the success Rebecca had had as Relief Society President in having people who need assistance use the self-reliance plan form.
The children all wanted to jump in the photo with her. Look how tall Brooke is now!
My parents went to dinner at Maddox with Dad's siblings and spouses. All of them were able to attend and I am glad they got a picture taken.

From left to right: Dad and Mom; Lyle and Carol (sister); AnnaMae; Helen and Merlin (brother). In front: Della; Lucille (sister) and Larry.
I was so glad I listened to BYU Women's Conference in the morning and afternoon last Thursday and in the morning on Friday. I enjoyed them so much. Truth be told, Glen listened in as well and also enjoyed what was taught.

It was fun to see Ali Gardner Policky (daughter of our friends Chad and Susie Gardner) singing one of the songs.
Our children have been asking if the City of North Salt Lake will be doing fireworks this year. We assumed they are and we now are planning to extend our family vacation to include the big fireworks show at the golf course.

We were so happy to see this sign posted recently which affirms fireworks are absolutely happening! HURRAH!! We missed them last year!
We went to see another play at Hale Centre Theatre.
Rebecca got so excited when we learned the three men of Gentri were going to be in this production, so we invited them to join my parents, Glen and me for a good time. The sad thing is that even though we thought we had planned to go on the day Gentri would be performing--they weren't in the play. SAD!!

But, HAPPY DAY--the actors who performed were FABULOUS!!! We enjoyed the play so much!!
Haley's parents are in town. Haley and Ben recruited Rebecca (and children) to watch their boys while they went to a Jazz game.

Levi is now seven months old.

My latest new recipe was honey-balsamic salmon. I got the recipe from Lynn Maughan, which she fixed for us when we visited them. This was good, but for some reason--food seems to taste better when it's cooked by someone else.
Let's talk more food. Let's talk Cinco de Mayo food. When this ad popped up on Instagram, I just felt like we should take advantage of it.

Glen had asked me earlier if we were having tacos for Cinco de Mayo and I had to sheepishly admit to him it hadn't even crossed my mind. But we can rectify that easily enough!
I called our fellow Costa Vida eaters (minus Ben and Haley who were still enjoying time with her parents) to see if they were in on the idea. They said yes!
Turns out all our schedules were so tight that the only way we could make it work was for us to do an early pick-up and eat dinner it at their home.

Dallas and Caroline were soon on their way out the door to go to the temple to do baptisms for the dead. Brooke was leaving soon to go babysitting.
Rebecca had been doing the book fair at the elementary school for several days. She had Madison with her and they came home after they finished up there.
The late-comers were happy to see there was food left for them. Shortly after they were finished eating, we had to skedaddle out of there as Glen had an early evening zoom meeting. WHEW!! We worked around the crazy coming-and-going schedule of everybody and it all worked out in the end.

Rebecca commented how it was nice to not have to worry about dinner after working the book fair all afternoon. It made me feel so happy to be of service in that small way!
We have had a big project going on at our house. We got a new roof. We were happy it worked out for us to have Glen's nephews, Kevin and Scott Hull and three other men, working the job.

The first day they backed up their dump trailer and got busy scraping all the shingles off the house.
There is Kevin hauling a water shield roll up the ladder.
Scott stopped just long enough for me to snap a photo of him. These guys are such hard and fast workers who don't stop until the job is done.

By that afternoon, their trailer was full and the roof was all waterproofed.
The next morning, a semi truck arrived with all the shingles and they were conveyed from the truck up onto the roof.

Kevin's crew got busy and halfway through the morning we were seeing beautiful new shingles.
By early afternoon the pounding had stopped and I saw the men cleaning up around the yard. It got awfully quiet for a while and I wondered if they had left and would just send us the bill in the mail.

I looked out the window and laughed to see our roofing crew on top of our neighbor's roof taking measurements.
We certainly feel like the best advertisement for this roofing company is the speed with which they got the job done. There have been quite a few new roofs around here after the big windstorm and it takes other crews a week or more to get the project done. Two days for us was amazing!!!

Kevin snapped a photo of our house while he was on Lee's roof. We love this view of our home with the mountains behind it.
Glen wanted roof ridge venting to allow for easier installation of solar panels. He also wanted shingles wrapped over the edge on the gables.
We are happy for the decorative look and we are very satisfied customers!!!
