Escape Room; Ben's Birthday; This Is the Place Monument; Bubble Run; Klarissa's Ladybug Birthday; Bronchitis

Abe's family was trying to fit as many fun things in as they could before they left Utah. Our kids (and Glen) love doing escape rooms together.

Abe, Klarissa, Newland and Wynne went to see the new Indiana Jones movie.

It was Ben's lucky day that everyone chipped in to help make his birthday dinner.
Glen even got in on the action. Ben loves chocolate Oreo ice cream pie. He requested that for his birthday dessert and specified he wanted the cream removed from the Oreos before crushing them.

Glen said he would be willing to remove the cream from all the pies I made for the celebration.
Happy birthday, Ben!!!!

Klarissa was an amazing super mom/aunt as she took her four children and three of Sarah's children all by herself to This is the Place Heritage Park.
Klarissa bought season tickets and has been there several times.
She loves all the fun things there are for the children to do.

I got a kick out of the barber photos. Klarissa said the man really stayed in character as he fake shaved the children.

Not only was I impressed with Klarissa's willingness to take the group of children, but I was impressed with the cute and cooperative photos she got of the children.

Jacob's family left Utah earlier than they had originally planned. Emma was anxious to get home to her friends who she will soon be leaving for college. And Logan had a detasseling job he needed to be back in Omaha for as it was uncertain which specific day his job would begin.

Detasseling is removing the pollen-producing flowers, the tassel, from the top of the corn plants.

It was fun to see this accomplishment of Logan as being awarded one of the detasselers of the day. Way to be a hard-working detasseler, Logan!!
Spencer has a new addition to his look these days as he has recently gotten braces put on his teeth.
Look at this cute little Levi playing in the water and sand at Bear Lake. Haley took the boys with her on a photo shoot and she sure shot some cute photos of her own son. She said Kade was not particularly fond of the sand.

Look at her cute pajama models.
Haley shared some fun photos of their family participating in the Bubble Run. Never heard of it, but it looked like an interesting experience. Once again, she said Kade was not too fond of getting in the bubbles.

Kade must be like his dad. Ben always had to have a wash cloth next to him when he was little whenever he was eating. He didn't like to have dirty hands.

Levi is the most dinosaur-loving little boy ever.
While staying with us, Abe and Klarissa were able to find a home to rent in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. They had packed everything up and moved out before they came here, and finding somewhere in Mt. Pleasant was their goal. So happy that turned out well for them.

Klarissa's birthday was spent going to a ladybug release event in Mt. Pleasant.

We can tell by the photos that their family had a very fun time with the ladybugs. There was another happy moment on Klarissa's birthday when Glen Facetimed her and played the Happy Birthday song to her on the new accordion they had given him.
Speaking of music...Glen and I love to go to the free concerts in the park. We usually choose the ones in Salt Lake City at the Brigham Young Memorial Park.

One evening's performance we were surprised and happy to see our friends the Kopenhefers who were there with my Aunt Lucille and Uncle Larry. It was fun to sit by the four of them as we enjoyed the music together that evening.
At the same concert, I noticed Sandy Beck, our friend from Georgia who is now living in Utah. We took this photo together to send to our friend, Sherrie Dahlquist.
Well, look who was sick. Yes, ME!! Glen had gotten bronchitis and apparently his germs came my way. UGH!!!!

Glen almost immediately went to the doctor as he felt head and chest congestion and got put on an antibiotic and started getting better.

I was not so lucky! This is one of two trips we made on two different Sundays to urgent care for me.
This photo is one of the other two weekdays when I was back at urgent care. I didn't document my FOURTH visit to urgent care before I got some relief from all my coughing and wheezing and constantly fighting to be able to breathe.
The first two visits I was given prednisone, cough syrup and pills for the asthma. My history proves that prednisone alone never works to get rid of the coughing and wheezing. I was so relieved on the third visit when I was given an antibiotic.
After three days, I could tell the antibiotic was doing nothing, so back I went again where I got prescribed a different antibiotic. Thankfully, after two weeks of struggling so much, I could tell that antibiotic was working and I gradually started getting better. HALLELUJAH!!!

Nothing better than feeling my airways opening up and being able to breathe once again.

Here I am on one of my better days when we used the gift card to Texas Roadhouse that Abe and Klarissa had given us. The rolls there are my absolute favorite!!
Shortly after our Thomas family reunion, Sarah and Jeff went off to the Excell family reunion. Sarah was the t-shirt designer for their family reunion as well.
I was full of anxiety when I learned they were going to the Grand Canyon. I could not even imagine all those cousins on the rim of the canyon with no barriers.
Imagine my relief when I saw this photo and saw the fence barrier.
Imagine my relief when they were back home--all of them safe and sound.
Sarah said she loved experiencing the beautiful sunset at the Grand Canyon.
Lincoln and Jonah love to get into character when they are playing and this particular Sunday was no different. Sarah said the boys learned about missionaries at church, so all day "missionary" was their costume of choice.

She said Lincoln would refer to Jonah as his "missionary mate."
Caroline had the opportunity to go to FSY at Weber State this year. She has had a busy summer with family reunion, FSY, trek and girls' camp.

Sarah made the best of friends at college with Leslie and Kenzie. I love these friends because they are the only girls who are taller than our tall Sarah.
Their families got together at Bear Lake. What a fun activity for all of them.

Eli experienced a little mountain bike accident when he hit a tree. Rebecca commented about how it happened just in time for first impressions for the first day of school! Sarah said luckily picture day was the morning before the incident. How fortuitous for Eli!
A fun activity I had with my daughters was going to see the Barbie movie.
I was happy to see that Nani got into the Barbie box posing when she went to the movie with her friends.
Ben and Haley have left town to spend a couple of weeks with Haley's family in New York. It is an adventure going on vacation with three children and all their paraphernalia.

They made it to their destination and almost immediately were going boating with Haley's parents. This is always a fun break for Ben and Haley.
We had our usual monthly Mexican meal with Dave Ziemski at El Matador.
Our restaurant of choice for Rich, Barbara, Maurine and Ray was Maddox.
Maurine hurt her leg and was walking around for a couple of weeks on a broken leg without knowing it.
So we could spend time with Bill and Jan, we decided to go to the Bountiful City concert in the park instead of the Salt Lake concert. It was a group playing Beach Boys songs.

Jan knew the words to pretty much every song. She just can't help herself and has to jump up and dance. Fortunately, there was another woman in front of us that was always jumping up out of her seat to dance, too.
Those women were cute enjoying themselves so much as they danced together (since the rest of us were dance duds).
My parents, Nani, Glen and I were able to go to another play at Hale followed by a meal at Red Lobster.
I love the photo op spots that Hale provides for us to have as a momento of each play we attend.

Quotes of the Week

When the focus of our lives is no God's plan of salvation ... and Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening -- or not happening -- in our lives. Joy comes from and because of Him.

--Russell M. Nelson

Thousands of you have experienced this change. You have forsaken lives of sin and through applying the blood of Christ in your lives, you have become clean. You have no more disposition to return to your old ways. You are in reality a new person. This is what is meant by a change of heart.

--Ezra Taft Benson

Your light of faith in Christ can be steady and sure, leading those around you to safety and peace.

--Susan H. Porter

Our journey to God is often found together.

Quotes of the Week

When we are unduly impatient with an omniscient God's timing, we really are suggesting that we know what is best. Strange isn't it--we who wear wristwatches seek to counsel Him who oversees cosmic clocks and calendars.

--Neal A. Maxwell

One of Satan's greatest lies is that men and women cannot change. This untruth gets told and retold in many different ways as the world says that we simply cannot change -- or worse yet, that we should not change.

--Kevin S. Hamilton

The Savior graciously invites us to be His voice and His hands. The love of the Savior will be our guiding light.

--Quentin L. Cook

I promise that as you prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, you will make better decisions--every day.

--Russell M. Nelson
