Glen's sister Barbara always sends a Christmas package with some of Glen's favorite snacks. This time she had some Christmas jokes that I really enjoyed.
Four days after surgery, I was back in the doctor's office so he could look at his handiwork. I screamed and nearly jumped out of my chair when he put his scissors on the bottom of my foot and slid them up under the bandage to cut it off. The nerves in my foot were so electrified!!!!
Sometimes I think he has way too much fun with the blood, guts and gore!!!He exclaimed about how good my foot looked!!! It made me gag and confirmed what I had been feeling--that the toe next to my little toe was extra sore.
I decided that day to schedule surgery for the left foot. I did not like waiting 3 months to get the right foot done and wanted to get on his surgery schedule. I am a glutton for punishment, I know!
What better, more romantic way to spend Valentine's Day than with my beloved...in a surgery center...and then back home to recover from surgery...with him being my nursemaid once again...??!!??
Dr. Dustin re-wrapped my foot and told me not to shower until he removed the stitches. My next appointment was 3 weeks later due to the Christmas and New Year's holiday schedule. That sure felt like a long time of not showering.
I got a kick out of this sentence that popped up on Duolingo as I was studying Spanish.
The very next day I was back at it again. We went to the mission office to meet our new mental health counselor that will be working with our missionaries. We had an afternoon meeting with these missionaries and their trainers.
It felt good to get back home that evening. We had plenty of food we could figure out to eat for dinner, but it was such a sweet gesture of tender loving care when we found a box filled with dinner that Barbara had sent to us.
It was the perfect night for it to arrive at our house. The food certainly brought us comfort and joy and it also brought warm feelings for Barbara as she was ministering to us from afar in just the perfect way.
I had survived that first day back at work all right, but the next day I felt more like myself as we headed to Escondido to spend the day doing interviews.
As Glen was in interviews, Elder Kiehl, one of our assistants, was doing a training with missionary companionships all throughout the day.
It was the day before our Christmas talent show and devotional and Glen's office had been turned into Santa's Workshop, dubbed that by Sister Burris, our office secretary.
She had received so many gifts for our missionaries from various people and various stakes that she needed a place to sort everything.
It was also the place where Christmas gifts were being stored for the missionaries that were sent to them by their friends and families. Needless to say, Glen was unable to conduct interviews in his office that day. He used the high council room.
Somehow it worked out that all the sister missionaries in that zone were at the church at the same time, so I was able to get us all together in one shot. Saved me having to get up several times and I jumped right in it with them--surgery boot and all!
Glen had a baptismal interview in Del Mar (our southern-most point in the mission) that evening and then he had to drive up to Murrieta (our nothern-most point in the mission) after that for a late baptismal interview there.
Let's just say it was a very late hour before we got to bed that evening.
We had learned that day about something brewing in the mission and an investigation had begun, so that also played into the lateness as well.
