Jeff was helping all of us former Georgia residents walk down memory lane as he sent photos of himself in front of Stone Mountain. Sarah was a bit put out thinking that he was back in her old stomping grounds without her.
Our family used to go to Stone Mountain every 4th of July to watch the laser show highlighting the Confederate monument carving on the side of the mountain. We would stay afterward to watch the fireworks show.
Jeff also made a stop at the Varsity restaurant--another famous place in Georgia.
Laurie brought Emma to town to help her get settled in her new apartment to begin her school year. Natalie was changing apartments and Laurie helped Natalie get all her stuff moved in.
They had come to town a few days earlier than move-in date so they could attend the wedding of the son of one of their close family friends.
Turns out since they were here they could also attend the wedding reception of Seth and Dezi Allen's oldest son. Seth and Jacob were best friends in Georgia. Both boys moved to Utah together after their missions. Laurie knew Seth from their college days.
We helped Sarah twice get Lincoln to his soccer practice. Once was when Jeff was out of town and the other was when Laurie was using their second car for the week she was here.
That meant Kaysville Creamery ice cream both times.
The next week Sarah sent this photo showing Carson, his friend, and Jonah were getting in on the ice cream after-practice deal as well.
Dad, Mom, Nani, Glen and I went to see the play The Addams Family. Dad has been steadily improving and getting his strength back. It was good to be with them doing something we all really enjoy.,
The play was so fun and so funny. There were one-liners we were laughing at through the whole play. It brought back lots of memories of watching that show on TV many, many years ago.
We forfeited our traditional Red Lobster meal after the play. We got Texas Roadhouse take-out and ate it at our home with Laurie, Natalie, and Emma. Laurie had really wanted to see Dad and Mom while she was in town and this was the perfect time to get visiting in with them.
Laurie absolutely loved hearing Dad and Mom talk about their experiences getting to and from Germany and learning how they lived while Dad was stationed there.
Laurie really loves family history, so these stories were fun for her to hear. She also said it reminded her of when her grandfather used to tell her stories and she loved those experiences with him.
Laurie is a Mandarin Restaurant lover, so her trip wouldn't be complete without a meal there. It was a girls' night out (plus Glen), and we all really enjoyed ourselves.
This was Laurie's last night in town. Emma decided she wanted to start sleeping in her new apartment that evening because her roommates had arrived, and she wanted to spend some time with them.
It was too bad Laurie left Sunday morning because we were having a Ward family dinner at our home Sunday evening. Laurie absolutely loves family get togethers, so it was sad she missed it. The rest of us enjoyed the good food and our time together.
Notice Eli's pink cast. Now you see it...
Now you don't...! He was able to get his cast removed, hopefully to never need another cast again in his life!!
Just as Eli was getting his cast removed, Glen was getting his wrist splinted.
After suffering with much pain in his hand for over three weeks, he went to an orthopedic doctor to get it checked out again. It was so frustrating because all the other injured body parts were healing. He felt like his hand was getting worse.
More x-rays showed no fracture. The one area of concern is hard to see a fracture, so he needed to get an MRI to see if that was the problem area. He was given a splint that day and it helped a lot in alleviating the pain every time he moved his hand.
The next week, after his MRI, he went back to the doctor to see what he had to say about it. There was no fracture in the trouble area, so that was good news.
Glen was feeling like the splint was helping and he wasn't in quite as much pain. I keep wondering how his hand would have felt if he had been wearing a splint from day one???
The doctor said the MRI showed arthritis in the area, but Glen hadn't had pain at all prior to the fall. So apparently the trauma of the fall caused that area to flare up with inflammation. The doctor prescribed 5 days of prednisone to help with inflammation. Glen has been continuing to wear the splint.
The doctor said he could mow the lawn (along with his other regular activities), and that thrilled Glen to be able to do that chore again. We both very much appreciated both Ben and Sarah taking their turn mowing while he was in so much pain.
Emma and her friend Riley came up from Provo, parked Riley's car in our driveway, and had me take them to the airport for their 4-day trip to Colorado. They are going to a concert and are seeing some of their friends from last school year who are going on missions soon. It sounds like a fun experience for all of them.
Laurie had extended her stay for an extra day so she could go to BYU's first football game with Natalie. That was a red-letter day for Claire (one of the biggest BYU fans of all time!). It meant the football season was getting started and she was excited.
Jacob sent this breakfast photo of her the morning of that first game.
Fast forward to this weekend when Glen and Kenny had planned to drive to Laramie to watch BYU play Wyoming. Jacob and Claire had also planned to drive to Laramie from Omaha and I was happy to see this photo showing they had met up with each other.
Jacob is certainly in his element as well whenever he is able to attend a BYU game. It's nice he's got a cute companion to enjoy the games with.
Claire really enjoys participating in all the BYU pre-stuff they do for the fans before the game.
They all went home happy because BYU won the game!! GO COUGARS!!

It made our day when Klarissa sent this photo saying she was thinking of us on this Sunday as they were getting ready to eat the traditional roast beef and carrot meal.
It's always nice to be thought of in such a sweet way.
