Nani was never so happy to declare herself a senior citizen now to get the discount when we went to eat at Chuck-A-Rama.
Nani seems to be taking her aging in stride; whereas, I was offended when I got this card in the mail recently. UGH!!
Brooke was never so happy as the day when Nani bought a new car and her old car became Brooke's new car.
Abe and Monty were apparently thinking of Glen and me on this day. One thing is for certain. I would MUCH rather look at their beautiful faces than the faces on their t-shirts. Haha!!
Glen and Jeff took Spencer, Eli and Carson to the BYU vs. Cincinnati football game in Provo. They met Jacob's family at the game.
We were just in Omaha with Jacob's family and then almost immediately after that, his family came to Utah to visit Natalie and Emma and to go to a BYU football game.
Despite it being such a late game, the boys enjoyed their treats--including the blue hair Carson was wearing.
After the men and boys left for the ball game, Rebecca, Sarah and I had plans of our own. Madison helped get a French toast lunch made for her, Lincoln and Jonah. Then she watched the boys for us while we made a quick getaway.
We went to Texas Roadhouse. YUM!! Those rolls!! I can never get enough of them!!
The football game crew got home in the wee hours of the morning. So glad I was part of the stay-at-home crew so I could get to bed at a decent hour.
Saturday morning we were able to watch general conference from home. We then headed off to the prison to be afternoon couple there to watch general conference with whichever of our men wanted to leave their sections to watch conference in the chapel.
We got through security and walked all the way to the Currant building and then were turned away by the sergeant at the door. There had been an incident and no visitors were allowed in.
It is always unnerving to hear of an incident happening because we never know at the time what is happening. This day, it was a blessing for us because we were able to get home just as the afternoon session of general conference was beginning and we could watch it with the family.
Pizza was a convenient dinner for all of us that evening.
Sunday morning I was up early making ebelskivers for the crowd. It is our family tradition to eat ebelskivers on general conference weekend.
Everyone had their own project to quietly work on while listening to conference.
Dad, Mom and Nani joined us for Sunday dinner between sessions. We always like to give them an opportunity to see Jacob's family when they come to town. Natalie and Emma came up from Provo to be with all of us as well.
We had some good baby holders that day.
Jacob's family left for the airport after we had our dinner.
Life went back to normal until a few days later when we noticed both our water heaters were leaking. YIKES!!
Glen called the plumber who had put in Dallas and Rebecca's new water heater. He had been quick to respond and had done it for a reasonable price.
Imagine Glen's surprise when that same man quoted thousands of dollars to install our water heaters. Glen called around and was appalled at how much everyone was charging these days. So, he took matters into his own hands. He went to Home Depot and bought some water heaters.
Then he put up a request on a neighbor Facebook page to ask if anyone could install them for us. He got a quote for $300 and set up the installation.
Water heater installation turned out to be on the same day the solar company was at our home installing more solar panels and power walls.
It turned out to be a blessing the solar people were here because the "plumber" didn't have a hand truck to use to haul the water heaters out of the garage, around the house and into the basement. The solar guys let them borrow their hand truck.
We were never so happy as when the water heater guy asked Glen what he was going to do with the old water heaters and then offered to haul them away in his truck for us. Hallelujah!!
The water heaters were installed and water was heating, so we felt pretty good about that. I noticed the earthquake straps were not put back on in the right place. Glen checked them out and some of them were put on wrong.
Well...what did we expect from a guy who handed Glen this business card after the job was done. So funny!!
Glen kept in the do-it-yourself-plumber theme by replacing both faucets in our master bathroom. Now my faucet doesn't drip anymore and my plug actually works.
It was time for another play date with my parents and Nani, when alas! Mom was not feeling well and sent Dad off without her.
Knowing how much Rebecca loves plays, I was hoping she was free to go with us that day. Fortunately for all of us, she happily accepted the invitation to join us.
As always, the play was very well done. I love to see how the set is decorated and how it changes with each act.
I kept expecting to see the hot air balloon, but it did not make its appearance until the very end. After the play we went to dinner at Red Lobster.
The next weekend, Glen went with his buddies to the BYU vs. TCU football game in Dallas, Texas. They decided to go see where JFK was assassinated.
They have preserved the spot and how the boxes were arranged where Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly shot President Kennedy. This is a view of the road the cars were traveling down when he was shot.
After the tour, they "decided to go have some good Texas barbeque." (Quote from Glen.) After having consulted with family members and Google, they decided to try Terry Black's Barbeque.
As they walked up to the restaurant they saw where they do the barbequing. They talked to one of the workers there and the worker suggested having a beef rib. He said, "After you've had a beef rib, you will never go back to steak."
Glen was the only one who followed the suggestion. That's a BIG RIB!!!!
This was their view at the football game.
This is a different view of the stadium because they got cold and moved over to the sunny side. "Sadly BYU looked horrible and lost. Overall, though, it was fun to be with friends and reminisce." (Glen's quote.)
(Glen, Randy Bambrough, Don Hooper and Kevin Jensen)
While Glen was gone, I wasted no time in lining up a lunch date with my friends. Diane and Jan were the only ones available that day. Jan was craving crepes at Annie's Cafe. She always buys a crepe cake to take home with her to share with Bill.
I don't usually like to eat out twice in one day, but when my girls are craving Olive Garden and free up their schedules to go, I couldn't refuse.
They messed up Sarah's order and brought hers out later than ours, so they refunded her the price of her meal and then offered her a free dessert. That's the way we do Olive Garden!
'Tis the season for skeletons, so here are some of the daily scenes I have seen at the house where people like to be creative with their skeletons.
This was the skeleton scene on the day of the eclipse.
I was able to see the eclipse through the clouds on my walk that morning.
