Quotes of the Week

Let us not just endure this current season. Let us embrace the future with faith! Turbulent times are opportunities for us to thrive spiritually. They are times when our influence can be much more penetrating than in calmer times.

--Russell M. Nelson

A lesson I learned early in my life is that no matter how dark the night, there is always the assurance that the sun will rise again (see Psalm 30:5). We can take the resolve to continue forward and upward with patience and steadfastness. We can do it now!

--Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Unity and understanding don't magically happen; they take conscious commitment. It's sometimes uncomfortable, and progress happens gradually, but we do get stronger.

Two Weekends With Natalie; Halloween Dinner With Friends; Josh Abercrombie's Viewing; More Skeletons

Natalie asked if she could come up from Provo two weekends ago so she could go on a day-long date with a boy who lives in this area.

We fed her Sunday dinner and she spent the night here and then was off on her date on Monday--which is her day off from school.

I decided it was time to do something to cover up the window above the front door.
We like having the light come through, but I do not like looking at a constantly dirty window!
I was happy to get a blind installed. It took a while for us to get used to having something hanging there. It feels not quite as bright as it used to be with the open window.
But it accomplishes the purpose--I am not looking at a dirty window anymore!
I am pretty sure I have mentioned in previous posts how much I love a good skeleton scene. This one is brought to you by someone in Rebecca's neighborhood who went all out with these costumes and set design--complete with tornado and the squished witch

Since it's Halloween season, LaVona and Lane decided to host a party where we enjoyed good food and good friends while we admired their newly-renovated home.

After we ate, we played some Halloween games. It was such a lovely evening with our good friends
Glen taught at a training meeting and that stake's Relief Society president sent him home with a See's thank you gift along with the brownie treats they handed out to everyone in attendance.
The Golden family scheduled an evening to come up and watch a Halloween muppet movie. But first, we met them for dinner at Costa Vida. Brooke wasn't aware I was snapping a photo. Spencer decided to eat his meal at one of the tall tables.
I went to an allergy specialist and had some skin testing done. I am hopeful I will have as much success as Abe has had with his allergy shots helping him be able to breathe much easier.

Looks like I should never have a cat or a dog as a pet (HURRAH for that not being a temptation--EVER in my life!!).

It appears every kind of grass is a big irritant to my system (good thing I have never had to cut the lawn).

Surprisingly, not even one kind of tree or any kind of mold affected me.
Haley was off on a photo shoot, so Ben dropped off Kade and Levi for us to watch for a few hours. Kade is saying a few more words each time we see him and Levi is now walking.
It appears literacy is an issue at the prison. For those inmates who struggle to read, a plan is being put into place to help those men and women increase their reading skills.

Glen has been very instrumental in helping to get this program going. So much so, that people are calling it "Glen's program." HAHA!!

I have been recruited to take part in "Glen's program" and got my official welcome and online program to work on so I can be prepared to be a "volunteer" mentor. Glen is also working on the mentor training, which is good so he knows what "his" program is all about.
We tried out a new restaurant, Vessels, when we went to dinner with our missionary Ali Winegar where she introduced us to her favorite guy.
Nani and I got together for our traditional birthday celebration. Since I will be gone the week between her birthday and mine, we had to do it a little earlier than usual.

We were a few minutes into our dining experience at Texas Roadhouse when I noticed we were not alone... I looked up and saw a big animal head looming over our table.
Couldn't resist a photo of us with our table mate. I must say, that visit to Texas Roadhouse was the absolute best food I had ever tasted at that restaurant. And the rolls were to die for as usual, but these were HUGE!!! Just how Nani and I love them!!!!!
It appears I have been eating out a lot lately. We went to eat with Glen's sister Bonnie and Dave (aka Santa Claus) at their favorite restaurant--El Matador.

There had been an internet outage the whole entire day long from morning until bedtime. The restaurant was experiencing an outage and couldn't process credit cards. We were happy it wasn't an electrical outage because then they wouldn't have been able to cook our food.
Glen was so lost without internet. He had to reschedule two of his zoom meetings. He didn't know what to do with himself, so he actually read a book for a while. That's unusual for him!
We were so happy we had a play scheduled that evening and were so happy the Centerpoint Theater in Centerville wasn't experiencing an internet outage. We saw "The Scarlet Pimpernel" and had a good time critiquing that play with Dallas and Rebecca who had also seen it.
We had an unusual event at the prison on Sunday.

We had our worship service and were halfway through Sunday School when the female officer stood up and shouted, "GET OUT NOW!! ALL OF YOU!! VOLUNTEERS LEAVE!! INMATES, GO TO BACK TO YOUR HOMES!!

There had been an attempted escape the day before when a new inmate made it over the first 12-foot fence and roll of razor wire at the top. None of us could believe he actually thought he could make it over the second tell fence with three rolls of razor wire at the top of that one.

We don't know what was happening on Sunday, but apparently everyone was going in lockdown for something. I was glad they let us out of the prison and we didn't have to go into lockdown in the room we were meeting in.

The early out meant we were able to get down to Provo to pick up Natalie right as she was getting out of church. We were happy to hear her first Relief Society lesson that she and another girl taught together turned out really well and they had a lot of participation from the class members.

Rebecca's and Ben's families soon joined us for Sunday dinner and games. Caroline was very happy to play with "her babies" while the little boys' parents were busy playing Crew with Glen and Rebecca.
That evening Ben and Haley went with us to Josh Abercrombie's viewing which was held at our church building.

Josh was a year younger than Ben. Hal was their scoutmaster. It was so sad to hear of Josh's passing. It was really bothering Ben. It is always tough when someone your own age dies--especially at the young age of 30.
Monday morning was the funeral. Glen had a zoom meeting and I was going shopping with Natalie and so we couldn't attend.

I was asked to provide some food for the family dinner and ran it over to the church early that morning. It was sobering to see the hearse parked there.

Glen and I listened to Josh's recorded funeral service that evening on our way home from taking Natalie back to Provo.
Now on to some brighter news. Sarah posted these cute photos of Jonah and Eli taking home the game ball on the same day.
Abe sent a video of their baby Monty scooting all around the floor. He will be crawling in no time.

Klarissa posted this recap of what their family has been doing lately.

For those who are like me and love to see the daily variety of skeleton poses, feast your eyes on these photos. The first one is a skeleton on a zipline.

This was the scene on a windy day and one of the superheroes had blown over.

These next three are some of my favorites: the bakers, the artists and the goggle-wearing rafters.

I also really enjoyed the George Washington boat scene Nani sent to me.
These Covid-testing skeletons I saw on Facebook made me laugh.
I have had three too many nose swabs that are so long it feels like they go up past the eyeballs and into the brain.
