Glen's Family Reunion and After-Reunion Treat

This year it was Glen's brother Dave's turn to plan the reunion. He reserved a very lovely park in Roy. We were supposed to bring our own meal, so Glen insisted we stop at the Burger Bar to get our food so he could relive all the many times he used to eat there as a kid.
Maurine's daughter Colleen said she saw me taking the Burger Bar picture as she and her son were driving by.
Some of these people looked familiar when we pulled up, so we knew we were at the right place.
Ilene--Nike's wife and Dave--Bonnie's husband.
Ray and Maurine with their daughter Michelle and their son Kevin and his family.
Here are some more familiar faces.
Yes, we insisted all our kids (who live in the area) attend the reunion. Jeff was working, but Sarah was willing to bring her little boys anyway.
All our kids were good sports and did as they were asked. Thanks to all of you!!
We did a quick siblings photo (plus one in-law--Chuck's wife Carol).

Back row: Don, JoAnn, Bonnie, Maurine, Glen. Front row: Barbara, Dave, Carol and Chuck. Nike and Betty are deceased.
As if the reunion wasn't plenty, the fun continued. Glen took us to Orange Leaf for an after-the-reunion treat. Sorry you weren't coming our way and weren't able to join in, Sarah.

Brooke is showing us the proper way to pose for a picture. She should know. She told us she learned how to pose for her school pictures.

The bowls there were GINORMOUS!!! Great ploy to get everyone to load up and pay lots of money per person.

Perfect ending to the reunion.

Again--Sarah, I am so sorry you missed out on this delicious activity. But there is something I didn't want you to miss out on...
And that is seeing the Orange Leaf toilet. Unique!!

What Kids Like

Caroline and Spencer like sitting on the front porch eating a picnic lunch while watching road construction workers.

The little kids all love Ben, but the little boys especially really like his motorcycle.

Eli and Caroline like playing the matching game together.
All the little kids like picking acorns off the trees and filling up their buckets.

Spencer likes strawberries and corn on the cob.
Brooke likes to show us how she butters her bread and then rolls her corn around on the bread to butter her corn.
Eli likes putting grapes inside his cheeks.
Caroline and Spencer like to load up little baggies full of snacks and go to the basement to watch movies.

There are lots of things these kids like. I like to think they all really like coming to their grandmother's house.

YW Temple/Pageant Activity

Our YW just had a big end-of-summer activity. We took the girls to the Bountiful Temple to do baptisms for the dead. We fed them pizza and then drove them up to Clarkston, Utah to watch the pageant, "Martin Harris: The Man Who Knew."

The pageant is held right next to the cemetery where Martin Harris is buried.
It is beautiful country and the nearly-full-moon in the sky provided a great backdrop for the play.

It was quite impressive when a bright light shone down on Joseph Smith in the grove of trees.

We got our girls home right before midnight. Hopefully they will remember what they saw and heard of Martin Harris's witnessing and testifying of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon.

Quotes of the Week

"Regard your good name as the richest jewel you can possibly be possessed of -- for credit is like fire; when once you have kindled it you may easily preserve it, but if you once extinguish it, you will find it an arduous task to rekindle it again. The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear."
-- Socrates

"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
--Ralph Waldo Emerson

"The object of teaching is to enable those taught to get along without a teacher."

Little Helpers

Glen decided to fix the snow blower now before the snow season begins. The boy scout motto is coming into play: BE PREPARED.
He had two eager tool helpers right by his side.

Looks like Carson has caught onto Eli's favorite thing of pushing the edger all around the garage.

Job done, boys happy, all's well.

Dinner and a Play at Sundance

Here we go with another fun activity sponsored by G&K. We arrived at Sundance Resort and got shuttled up the mountain. Here are some of the G&K people.
We ate a BBQ dinner before the play.
We did a little investigating and found this trail that goes up and over the mountain. The sign by Glen's shoulder is enlarged below.

The sign suggests people take that trail as an alternate way of getting back to the parking lot. The sign tells the truth. It was a moderate hike if you wore correct walking shoes like Glen did. It was a strenuous hike if you had a big sore bump on the side of your foot and you wore not-so-great walking shoes like me.

The trail was very rocky and uneven. What a blessed sight to crest the top of the mountain and be able to see a parking lot down the other side of the mountain.
Such a beautiful place up on that mountain.

We saw some different characters standing around.

Where were Jacob, Natalie and Brooke when they were asking for hula hoop experts for the pre-show contest?
Craig organized this outing for his sales team and their spouses and invited Glen and me to go along with them.
I am so glad we got to enjoy the evening in the great outdoors and see "Annie Get Your Gun."
Fun show, great play, and wonderful G&K employees.
