Ice Pack and a Pillow
Perhaps some of you are wondering if Glen's wrist is improving. We thought so...until...another snowstorm...or two...or three. SHEESH!!!! Is it ever going to quit snowing????
Poor Glen goes outside to help clear several driveways and comes inside to a frozen dinner while he ices his wrist. He asked for easy things to pull out of the freezer while I am recovering from surgery.
In case anyone wonders how I am doing, let me introduce you to my new best friend...
Since having a posterior pelvic repair done recently, I find my posterior is very sore. What better way to pad it than with a traveling neck pillow. Genius idea!
Thanks once again for the neck pillow gift, Abe. It has come in handy for several different uses through the years.

All things being equal, people will do business with, and refer business to, those people they know, like, and trust.

Wisdom is knowing what to do next, skill is knowing how to do it, and virtue is doing it.

You do not lead by hitting people over the head--that's assault, not leadership.

Quotes of the Week
"Always Remember to take your Vitamins: Take your Vitamin A for ACTION, Vitamin B for Belief, Vitamin C for Confidence, Vitamin D for Discipline, Vitamin E for Enthusiasm!!"
-- Pablo
Admit to -- and learn from -- your mistakes. Mistakes must be viewed positively... because with the knowledge you gain from them, you are able to do better in the future. So much can be accomplished with a long-term vision and resilience to short-term setbacks. Not every problem is conquered overnight, but if you persist and never give in to your mistakes, you will succeed.
-- Craig Ballantyne
"Instead of putting others down, try improving yourself instead. The only person you have a right to compete with is you. In the meantime, treat others how you'd like to be treated. One trait that some of the best (communicators) share is empathy. A couple of kind words can not only make a person's day, but earn you a friend and supporter for life. For the rest of the week, whenever you see someone you want to judge negatively, pay them a compliment instead. See what happens."

"The deepest secret is that life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation. You are not discovering
yourself, but creating yourself anew. Seek therefore, not to find out Who You Are, but seek to determine Who You Want to Be."
-- Neale Donald Walsch
"Do one thing everyday that scares you."
-- Eleanor Roosevelt
"It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living."

Web M.D.
Glen has had a couple of appendage issues these past several weeks.
His first problem was his knee. It only bothered him when he knelt down to pray. Then it started bugging him more and he decided to take my advice and go see a doctor so he knew what he was dealing with.
He went to the doctor and found out he has a weird condition so he came home and consulted his favorite online doctor--Web M.D. Here's what he learned (in his own words with the help of Web M.D.'s words as well):
Glen: The doctor told me I have jumper's knee. This is caused by stress from jumping on a tendon that according to Web M.D., "Jumper's knee is one of the more common tendonopathies affecting athletes with mature skeletons."
Those last three words are MY favorite!!! Glen's favorite words are the two in front of that.
Glen: At least I'm an athlete with a mature skeleton. It confirms the fact that I am an athlete.
The doctor put him on prednisone for a week and he hasn't been kneeling on it and he's hoping it is getting better.
On to his second problem--his wrist. Four weeks ago during one of those never-ending snowstorms, he was out snow blowing our driveway and helping out doing our neighbor's driveway, when he fell four times and injured his wrist.
Once again he consulted his favorite online doctor--Web M.D.--and assumed he had a sprained wrist. Web M.D. told him to wear a wrist brace and if it wasn't better in two weeks, then go see a doctor.
FOUR weeks later, he was still complaining like crazy, so he finally broke down and went to the doctor. (Okay, to give him some credit, he did call the doctor a week earlier, but had to wait a while before he could get in.)
Here's what he learned from the real live doctor:
Glen: I have a fracture of where the wrist on the pinky finger side of the arm joins into the arm. Since it was a really formal medical term, I can't remember it and so I can't consult Web M.D. to get further clarification. The doctor was surprised that I was in so much pain after 4 weeks, though. That was until I showed him my little splint. He said that's your problem. The choice was a hard splint or a cast. It's going to take 4-6 weeks to heal.
We should probably give Rebecca credit for diagnosing his other weird ailment several months ago when three live doctors could not pinpoint why in the world Glen was having such intense pain in his ear, intense pain in his head behind his ear and experiencing ringing in the ear and lots of dizziness.
After considering Rebecca's diagnosis, and consulting Web M.D., Glen confirmed in his mind what he is sure he had--TMJ.
Thank you Web M.D. for being there for us when we need you!

A Weekend Trifecta in Omaha
Thank goodness the weather cooperated for Glen and me to drive to Omaha this past weekend. Despite the major dumpings of snow we had been getting and the insanely below-freezing weather for weeks on end, the roads were remarkably clear for driving. Wyoming was even kind enough to have clear roads nearly the whole way for us. We were very happy about that.
It was fun to see the adorable grandchildren and give them hugs upon our arrival. Steve and Jane had arrived from Oregon a little earlier in the day. First on the list of things to do was have dinner at Hu Hot.
We started our day off Saturday with Emma's baptism. Such a pretty little girl in her beautiful white dress.
Lunch after the baptism was at Culver's. Kevin and Melissa Brandvold and their kids were at the baptism and joined us at the restaurant. All the little kids wanted to sit at the corner table where they had a great time waving to all the drive-through customers between bites of food.
Triple decker anyone?
Afternoon fun consisted of Jacob's family swimming in our hotel swimming pool. The hotel had been dead the whole time we were there--until we went to the pool and then we got invaded. It looked like a family reunion when another whole family and all their children and grandchildren arrived and took over the pool. Our family still had fun despite how crowded it soon became.
After a pizza dinner, Luke and Logan played some Wii games with their grandpas.
Natalie and Emma played Clue with their mom and grandmas. Emma likes to do silly poses for pictures and this is one of them.
The beautiful white baptism dress made a second appearance on Sunday. Emma stood up straight and tall when her name was announced during church as being the newest member of the ward.
Emma was a good sport posing with Claire who was wearing her white blessing dress.
Here she is hugging her older sister.
Claire was a very good baby during her blessing.
Not only was there a baptism and a blessing this weekend, there was also a sustaining of Jacob to the bishopric. It was a huge blessing for us that we were able to be there so Glen could ordain Jacob a high priest.
What a sweet and special family!!!
Jacob and Laurie threw a nice dinner party for their friends and family after church. It was nice to get to meet some of their good friends.
We very much enjoyed being able to spend the weekend with Jacob, Laurie and their kids for not just one, and not even two, but three big events happening in their family. Thanks for the invitation to attend. We love you and your darling children!!
