Seth and Kenna are Married

My nephew, Seth, got married. The first two photos were taken at the reception the night before.

Mike and Lorene were looking very handsome/lovely all dressed up as parents of the groom for the special occasion.

Here are Seth and Kenna coming out of the Oquirrh Mountain Temple the next day as a married couple.

Congratulations and best wishes to the new Mr. and Mrs. Ward!!

"There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. March "Madness" Is Aptly Named

Anyone ever heard of March Madness? Well I'm here to tell you I got immersed in the madness of it all first hand.

Glen originally planned a buddy trip--him and his two childhood friends--to Vegas for the West Coast Conference Tournament. Then Abe and Klarissa decided to invade the buddy trip. Then Glen figured he'd better drag me along to keep Klarissa company and pretty soon there was a little group of us planning to hook up in Nevada.

We took one of the buddies, Kenny, with us in the car and arrived on Wednesday evening. Dinner that night was at KFC.

It was about this time I warned Kenny I would be taking his picture many times throughout the upcoming week...

Next morning we were off to take Kenny wardrobe shopping. Apparently this is a tradition for him and Glen to do when they go on a trip together to Vegas.

But, first things first--we had to hit up our first breakfast buffet. It was located in the same casino where Kenny wanted to shop.

While Kenny was shopping, Glen decided to update his wardrobe as well. He figured out he hadn't packed a tie for Sunday and found a steal of a deal on ties in a little shop there. It was tough, but he passed over the ties that had aces and kings and queens and jacks and slot machines and dollar signs and anything else dealing with gambling on them and just stuck with the generic type of tie.

I satisfied my curiosity of seeing what Kenny's favorite store looks like when we went to find him and saw him walking away from the cash register after having made his purchase. Sheplers had come through for him again. He found some western shirts he liked and he was a happy man. Success!!!

On Thursday we sat through a girls' basketball game at noon and another one at 2:00 at the Orleans Arena.

Our system was to rush to a casino and eat at 4:00 so we could be back at the arena for the 6:00 and 8:00 men's games. That was a lot of sitting! I got in a lot of reading!

Kenny's favorite buffet is the Rio. We wanted it to be a happy day all around for Kenny.

As is always the case, Glen tried to get all his work done in between all the playing stuff we do on vacations. He was working on a big account and dealing with some problems at work. I was going to be happy for him when the work week was finished and the weekend arrived so he could put one of those computers aside for a while.

Friday morning Abe and Klarissa arrived in town. We picked them up at the airport and took them straight to eat at a breakfast buffet. Kenny opted out of breakfast with us because he said he was too full from the dinner buffet the day before.

Because they hadn't gotten much sleep the night before, Klarissa decided to stay at the hotel for the two girls' games that afternoon so she could take a nap.

Abe and I cut out a little early from the first game and missed all of the second game (ahhh SHUCKS!!!!) to go watch a movie. It was so pleasant to have a little diversion from all those games!!

We picked up Klarissa so she could enjoy the Planet Hollywood buffet we had planned for that evening.

Klarissa wanted some cotton candy.

By the time she got back to the table with her dessert selections, Abe had eaten nearly all the cotton candy by himself.

Guess what our after-dinner entertainment was??? It's a no-brainer answer. We went back to the arena to watch the two men's ball games.

We would have included Kenny in the group photo, but he never even once sat by us. He would make a beeline for center court, a few rows up, and find an empty seat there. It didn't even matter to him that the evening games were assigned seating. He felt the need to assign himself a seat, and he always found a good one.

That night BYU was playing.

It was a fun game to watch and having the band, cheerleaders and Cosmo right in front of us and the student section right next to us made it even more exciting.

One thing did hinder our happiness and it was the woman sitting on the floor chairs who kept getting up to dance and cheer with the cheerleaders--and she wasn't even there for BYU. Strange!

Does the expression on these two guys tell it all about who won this particular game? Go BYU!!!

Saturday morning we walked through the conservatory at the Bellagio and saw all the beautiful plants and flowers arranged in such beautiful ways. It's always a treat to go there and see what is on display. We were definitely not disappointed.

We were on our way through the hotel to find a good place for us to get something for breakfast and we found the chocolate shop.

There were so many beautiful sweet treats on display. It looked like a work of art.

Looks like we all found something good to eat there.

Some got more than others...

Then off to the ball games we went. Glen's other buddy, Randy, had gotten into town and joined us for the afternoon ball games.

As usual, at 4:00, we hurried off to a buffet to get stuffed before the two evening ball games. We hit up the Rio again. Kenny had a double dose of his favorite buffet.

We love the little cups of gelato at the Rio.

My non-dessert-eating husband surprised me by stopping to grab a chocolate eclair on his way out of the restaurant after he'd eaten two cups of gelato. Looks like he comes out of the no-sweets zone when he's on vacation.

Just because we were on vacation wasn't any excuse for us to miss church. We all brought our Sunday clothes and we all planned to go to church.

Randy went off to early church with a cousin who lives in the area. The rest of us wanted to sleep in.

We decided to eat the breakfast buffet at our hotel while Kenny opted out of breakfast once again.

While waiting for Glen to get the car, Kenny decided to stop at the little shop next to the lobby and get himself a bagel for the road. Abe's thumb is pointing at Kenny standing at the counter placing his order.

Glen had found a church close by for us to attend at 11 a.m. We pulled up to the church and the parking lot was packed. There was only one other car that had arrived just after us. No one else was arriving or walking into the building. That should have been a red flag for us right then and there. Most churches are buzzing right before church starts with people hurrying in to find a seat.

As we walked down the hall, we could see into the cultural hall and it was packed with people. We could tell the meeting had been going on for a while. It was stake conference that had apparently started an hour earlier. We turned around and walked right back out of the building. We told the family who had arrived right after us and who were getting ready to walk into the building what we had found. They were bummed like we were, but unlike us, they were determined to find another building so they could attend another ward.

Our attitude was we tried and that was going to be good enough for us. We were moving onto our next activity of the day.

Klarissa had done some research of the area and wanted to take an excursion to Red Rock Canyon. We invited Kenny to ride along with us, but he just wanted to go back to the hotel and go back to bed.

The day was absolutely beautiful for a short drive out to observe the beauties of nature.

We looked around the visitor's center and walked through the displays they had outside.

There was a 13-mile scenic drive where you could stop along the way to get out and take pictures or climb on the rocks or go on a hike.

It was beautiful seeing the red rocks up close and it was surprising to see how many rock climbers there were on the mountain.

This is our view near the red rock mountain looking back to where we had parked our car up on the roadway and had hiked down into that deep ravine and up onto the mountain.

At first it looked like I might need to sign a death waiver (as is typical of Abe and Klarissa's adventures with us), but it wasn't as bad a hike as it looked and there were no rappelling ropes involved. WHEW!!!

There was another popular stop at look-out point where you could see all of the valley and this is how Glen chose to view the view: from the seat of the car.

It had been such a great way to spend Sunday afternoon--outdoors enjoying the beauties of nature in the desert. It had been a glorious day of rest for us from the worldliness of Vegas and from the basketball arena. It had lifted our souls. Almost as much as church would have done if we would have been able to attend church. So much for that new tie Glen had bought just for the occasion.

Abe and I had gotten a crazy, intense urge to go to Checkers once we saw one. I used to take the kids to Checkers, back in Georgia, when Glen would go out of town and we loved it!!! So, we had to take a walk down memory lane together as we ordered our milkshakes and fries.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch... (or back at the Riviera Casino where we were staying...) Randy had hooked up with Kenny for lunch and he was ready to meet up with us for our evening activities. Kenny did not want to join in.

Klarissa wanted to see the water show at the Bellagio and since Randy has never seen it, he wanted to go with us.

It was so sad when we walked through the Bellagio and came upon the conservatory and discovered they were in the middle of switching it all out for an entirely different theme and decor in there. They had literally stripped it all down to the bare bones. Such a stark contrast to the beauty we saw in there just the day before. And Klarissa and I were sad we weren't going to be sticking around long enough to see the new botanical display.

Our buffet that evening was my favorite at the Wynn. We were able to eat very leisurely instead of having to quickly shovel the food down our throats so we could hurry and get to evening games. We had nothing we had to do for the rest of the evening, so we took our time eating and savored every delicious morsel.

And we saved room for dessert, of course! I took a bite out of every one of the desserts displayed here (except for the chocolate gelato) and I can say without a doubt that the carrot cake was the best!

Look at Glen go eating his fill of gelato once again this evening. We loved it when the buffets offered gelato as part of their dessert selections.

Before we knew it, Monday was upon us--our last full day in Vegas. Randy and Glen got up early to go golfing that morning. Kenny did his own thing until the guys picked him up to take him to the noon girls' championship basketball game.

Abe, Klarissa and I ventured out in another direction that morning. We went to the Venetian to eat breakfast at a bakery shop.

Our destination after breakfast was the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. That's where the History Channel's show Pawn Stars is filmed. I have never watched that show, but Abe, Klarissa and Glen know all about it. Abe was excited to take a look inside the pawn shop for himself to see how it compares to what he has seen on television.

Unfortunately for us, we were in the middle of a big, long line waiting outside the building to get in. Filming was going on inside the pawn shop so they weren't letting us in for a while.

There we are--third and fourth from the right in this picture.

It was a happy day when the line finally started moving. Lucky for me--I was the last one they let in with the first batch of visitors they let in the door.

Abe looked all over for the perfect gift to send to his friend, Ben, back in Georgia, who loves watching the show.

It was my craving for an In-N-Out burger that caused us to make this little detour on our way to the girls' game. MMMMMmmmmmmm, love those burgers!

It was a victory for the BYU girls who were named the West Coast Conference Champions.

Klarissa could hardly wait to escape the confines of being inside casinos and sitting for hours in the arena. She wanted fresh air and found some fake grass to stand on under a palm tree. Felt almost like being home in Florida, I'm sure.

The buffet that evening was at the Bellagio. I love the beautiful flower arrangements

We had to savor each bite because it was our last buffet of the trip.

And what do you think our after-dinner entertainment was that evening? Same as every other evening (except the blessed, Sabbath day-of-rest evening)--watching our 14th basketball game. That's a LOT of game watching!!

As usual, the chair next to us sat empty when Kenny ditched us to go find a better spot to watch the game.

But, look at this gloriously lovely, cushiony chair. They were so comfortable for us to spend so many hours sitting. LOVE, LOVE, LOVED the chairs!!!!! Thank you, Orleans Arena, for providing such soft seating for us!!!

I'll tell you what we all (and most especially Klarissa) got sick and tired of watching time after time after time--the team spirit squads. They all did the exact same routines over and over and over again.

Our absolute least favorite was a certain team's guy routine. Yup, we watched it every time their girls and their boys played a game. We were sick of it!!!

We also got sick of the same Zappos blindfold game they played during time-out in every single game.

There was a little different diversion during a time-out in the last game. Guinness Book of World Records was there to verify us having the most amount of high fives going on simultaneously. Wow! I'm proud to say I'm part of that amazing record. (It was pretty lamo!)

It was a bummer that BYU wasn't in the championship men's round. That would have been the perfect way to end the marathon of basketball game watching.

I can see now why they call it March Madness. It's because you about go mad sitting all those hours watching game after game after game. By the end of each day you feel a great need to escape the indoor prison. And after days on end of repeating the insanity, you just feel like screaming...

...for ice cream!!

Yet another fun trip with Abe and Klarissa. So glad I got talked into invading the buddy trip. Can't speak for the buddies, but the rest of us had fun together.
