After the Storm Passed

Last weekend was our monthly birthday dinner party at my parents' home. Dallas was the January birthday boy from our family, with honorable birthday mentions going out to Sarah and Emma. Wes and Rachel were having a good time sitting on their Grandpa's lap, waving the lighters around and making their best attempts at trying to light the candles.

Dallas and Brooke enjoyed a moment together as they ate some of the yummy, strawberry dessert made by Nani.

The snow had started to fall when we were leaving the party and the roads were becoming a bit treacherous for travel and it was making Rebecca quite nervous. Ever since she and Dallas were in a car accident 2 years ago on a snowy night, she has been quite leery of driving in bad weather. So they decided to wait out the storm at our house by spending the night. We helped outfit the unprepared slumberers by providing them with sweats from our closet. (Who said they had to match??)

It sure looked like Brooke had a good night's sleep by the looks of her little piggy-tails all cockeyed. She thought her French toast breakfast was almost as good as her Grandpa makes. Mmmmmmm, good!!!

The wintery storms are not so enjoyable to drive through, but the world is sure beautiful after a storm has passed and the sparkly, white snow glistens against a beautiful, blue sky.

Spotty Dotty

It was time for my annual burn fest--where I go to the dermatologist and get all my skin tags and other little bumpy growths frozen off my body. I seem to grow enough of them to need this procedure done every year or two. I always schedule to have it done in the winter months so that I can wear a turtle neck shirt for a while whenever I go out in public to hide the atrocious-looking, blistery, scabby sores on my body.

After the doctor had his fun with the trigger on the freeze/burning canister he was using, this is what I looked like: LOVELY!!

And that's just a portion of the sores covering my neck, chest, tummy, back, hand and arm. I must admit that I did have him treat some spots that were just plain, old-age spots. As I am watching the sores healing and know that the age spots will be gone when the scabs fall off, I'm now thinking of the dermatologist as my own, personal fountain of youth!
Of course, I didn't want to be the only youthful-looking partner in this marriage relationship, so I dragged my husband along with me (misery loves company...). Glen had a small amount of his own bumps gracing his forehead that needed to be zapped. He also had a huge, dark spot on the top of his head that was getting larger as time wore on. So, being the dutiful wife that I am, I scheduled for Glen to accompany me to the doctor and this is what he looked like when we were finished:

SPOTTY AS WELL!!

The two spots on his cheek were zapped after the doctor put on his magnifying glasses and declared those spots to be pre-cancerous. He really kept the spray going on those two to make sure the skin there was sufficiently, deeply frozen.
As time passed, the one on his cheek got so bubbly I thought it was soon going to burst and ooze liquid all down his cheek--like the sunburn blisters Ben had on his cheeks after his day of snowboarding...

...or like the sunburn blisters Abe had on his shoulder after his day of sun at the swimming pool. YUCK!!
Glen was complaining that all his spots were on his face and head where everyone could see them. I hardly had any sympathy at all because after a count was made of all our spots, the grand tally was
Kim--76
Glen--9
(he only had 7 places treated, but the big, dark one got 3 zaps and so he made me count those towards his total). So, which one of us should be doing the most complaining??!!?? (Perhaps any poor person who has to look at us and all our spots...)

The Birth and Naming of Our Blog

As per our goal for 2009, and the creation of this blog, we have now officially become part of the blogging world!

We are sure that everyone is anxious to see what exciting things we will put on our blog. I'm not all that confident that we will post anything of interest and thereby considered the name "Thomas Tedium" to be perfect for our blog name. Glen is convinced we will wow everyone with all our wonderful word/picture combos and is still loving his creative "Talk a Lot, Pics a Little" name. And although he did figure out how to get a picture of us on our blog (aren't you all impressed??), I'm not so sure we'll be taking too many pictures to post very often and so crossed his clever title off the list.

Since we did conduct a survey of our beloved family on what the actual name of our blog should be, it was evident that the favorite name was "Thomas Teaser--Written by Two Old Geezers". I just couldn't imagine referring to ourselves on a regular basis as old geezers, so that idea got shot down rather quickly.

Glen, the avid (or rabid) BYU fan that he is, was pushing for the "True-Blue Thomases" title to grace our header. But, since my favorite color is pink and the only true blue love I have for BYU is that it has been the institution of higher learning for several of our children, I nixed that one very quickly.

We do want to give honorable mention for Sarah's creativity in submitting quite a few original ideas. We loved them all, especially "The Rest of Our Quest With an Empty Nest". But, that almost sounds like we're nearing the end of the road and we feel like we have a whole lot of road left to travel before we're done.

Our other honorable mention would be from Mark, who was also very creative in throwing out some great, inventive ideas. Our favorite one of his was "Glen and Kim--Lots From Her, Little From Him". The jury is still out on whether I will jump on the blogging bandwagon and even want to write "lots" (although by the looks of this entry--perhaps that shouldn't be a worry...?!?). And since it was Glen's idea to get this blog going and he's already excited about being able to share his "Quote of the Week" feature, perhaps he'll be the one writing "lots" and I'll be the one posting "little".

So, as we kept crossing name after name after name off our list, the one that we both liked the best was--"G and K and What They Say". This means that I win the prize since it was one of my ideas. Too bad we didn't figure out a fabulous prize that would go to the winner of The Best Name For Our Blog Contest!
